Forbidden Communist Party of Ukraine names its candidate for a post of president

The Forbidden Communist Party of Ukraine (CPU) has nominated first secretary of the Central Committee of the Party Petro Symonenko as a candidate for the presidency of Ukraine, - Interfax-Ukraine reports.

According to the CPU website, this decision was made at an extraordinary 54th congress in Kyiv on Thursday, January 3.

"The delegates to the congress unanimously decided to nominate Petro Symonenko, first secretary of the Central Committee, as candidate for the presidency of Ukraine from the Communist Party of Ukraine", - the report said.

The Communist Party of Ukraine intends to complete the fundraising for the monetary deposit of a candidate for the presidency of Ukraine until January 20.

As reported, on July 8, 2014, the Ministry of Justice and State Registration Service of Ukraine appealed to the District Administrative Court of Kyiv with a claim to ban the Communist Party of Ukraine on the territory of the state. On December 16, 2015, the court banned the activities of the Communist Party on the claim of the Ministry of Justice. On December 28, the CPU appealed to the Kyiv Administrative Court of Appeal with an appeal against the relevant decision of the District Administrative Court of Kyiv.

On January 25, 2016, the Supreme Administrative Court of Ukraine refused to open a cassation appeal on the СPU cassation appeal, which tried to appeal against the legal conclusion of the Commission on observance of the law "On condemnation of the communist and national socialist (Nazi) totalitarian regimes in Ukraine and prohibiting propaganda of their symbols".

The given decision of the Supreme Administrative Court of Ukraine is not subject to appeal.

At the same time, as reported in the response of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine to the request of Ukrainska Pravda online media, "the ban on the party's activities does not mean an automatic termination of the legal entity's activities". "Such termination takes place in the manner prescribed by legislation in force, including through the creation of a liquidation commission, which has the authority to determine the fate of the property on the basis of the law and charter's provisions, to", - the Ministry of Justice said in a letter.
