Eight European Union members of the United Nations Organization called on the authorities of the Russian Federation to stop preparations for illegal elections in the occupied part of Donbass. The corresponding statement on behalf of the eight countries - European Union members was delivered at the briefing before the UN Security Council meeting (which was broadcast on the website of the Organization) by Permanent Representative of the United Kingdom to the UN Karen Pierce, - UNIAN reports.

The United Kingdom, France, the Netherlands, Poland, Sweden, Italy, Belgium and Germany joined the statement.

The British diplomat stated that this statement demonstrates the continuity of the EU's position on Ukraine.

"We as Member States of the European Union fully support the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine within the internationally recognized borders", - the statement said.

"We condemn the illegitimate "elections" planned for November 11 in the non-government controlled territories of the so-called "Luhansk People's Republic" and "Donetsk People's Republic". If held, these illegitimate elections would contravene commitments made under the Minsk agreements and violate Ukrainian law", - the statement noted.

It is noted that any such illegal elections would be incompatible with the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine. "We call on the international community to stand united in opposing these illegitimate elections that can only serve to undermine efforts to achieve peace in the region. We urge the separatists to abandon the plans for elections and call on Russia to bring its considerable influence to bear to stop these so-called elections from taking place", - the authors of the statement added.

The pseudo-elections in CDDLO are scheduled for November 11.

As reported, the Minsk agreements, first of all, provide for the restoration of the territorial integrity of Ukraine by providing the temporarily occupied territories of Donbass with the status of "districts with a special order of local self-government". As for the local elections, according to the Minsk agreements, they should be held under Ukrainian legislation. Under all the documents signed in Minsk, there are signatures, including of the puppet leaders of the occupied Donbass. Such concepts like the "DNR" or "LNR", as well as the names of any positions of "heads of republics", do not appear in the Minsk documents at all. Thus, the Minsk agreements do not recognize the subjectivity of the "DNR/LNR" by default and do not provide for the presence of authorities in them and, accordingly, procedure for their election.
