The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has sent a note on Ukraine's desire not to extend the 1997 Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Partnership to Russia. This was said at the briefing by Minister of Foreign Affairs Pavlo Klimkin, - Livy Bereh reports.

"As it was said, today we sent the corresponding note to Russia", - he said.

The operation of the treaty is automatically extended for subsequent ten-year periods, unless one party notifies the other party of its desire to terminate it by written notification no less than six months before the end of the next ten-year period.

According to the Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Partnership between Russia and Ukraine, the principle of strategic partnership, recognition of the inviolability of existing borders, respect for territorial integrity and mutual obligation not to use its own territory to the detriment of each other's security was consolidated.

According to the minister, all the violations of provisions of the treaty by the Russian Federation are specified in the note.

Russia violated the treaty in 2014, having occupied the Crimea and part of the Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts.

President Petro Poroshenko put into effect the decision of the NSDC to end the Treaty of Friendship with Russia.
