Focus on EU, NATO and lifting of immunity: Rada will start amending Constitution this week

The Verkhovna Rada may begin considering amendments to the Constitution this week to consolidate Ukraine's focus on its membership in the EU and NATO. This was said at the coordination board of the parliament today by Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Andriy Parubiy, - correspondent of OstroV reports.

"I believe that this week we can pass bills that provide for changes in the Constitution", - he reported.

According to the speaker, Rada can vote for the presidential bill on securing focus on the EU and NATO in the Ukrainian Constitution in the first reading this week. After that, the bill will be sent to the Constitutional Court.

"We had preliminary consultations, and in fact, most factions gave their endorsement and understanding that consolidation of this provision in the Constitution is important for Ukraine", - A.Parubiy noted.

The speaker also added that this week, the parliament can consider the issue of lifting immunity from people's deputies.

"We can consider this issue on Thursday", - he said.

In addition, according to A.Parubiy, within the framework of decommunization, it is necessary to rename two oblasts - Dnipropetrovsk and Kirovohrad.

"All the procedures are passed, and our parliament should rename the two oblasts at the level of Constitution", - he said.

"We can make a day of changes in the Constitution and all the developments can be passed on this day (on Thursday)", - the speaker stressed.
