If Russia closes the border with the occupied territories the "DNR" and "LNR" will not hold out even for a day. This opinion was expressed by Russian saboteur Igor Girkin (Strelkov) in an interview with Ekspress Gazeta.

"The republics cannot be on their own for some long period of time. There are three options: either they will have to be annexed to Russia, that is, be formally taken under protection, or Novorossia project will be realized when a completely new, friendly but independent state comes into being. There is a third option - Ukraine will win with the support of the USA… If the Russian Federation, God forbid, closes the border, the DNR and LNR will cease to exist within several days", - the militant, who actually launched the war in the Donbass, stated.

Girkin considers the cessation of active hostilities against Ukraine in 2014 Russia's big mistake. "In fact, now there is no Novorossia because in 2014, under the pressure of the West, it was decided to stop the offensive in the Ukrainian direction. This was a wrong move. It brought nothing but a foreign policy defeat. It did not get rid us of sanctions… We need to go (conduct an attack – OstroV) at least to Dnipropetrovsk, to take control of the whole territory where predominantly Russian population lives", - terrorist Girkin believes.

As OstroV reported, on April 12, 2014, little-known Igor Girkin (Strelkov) entered Sloviansk from the territory of Russia with a detachment of Russian saboteurs. His subversive reconnaissance unit captured the city police departments and SBU, and Girkin declared himself "the acting commander of the DNR militia". Later he confessed that a murderous war in Ukraine would not have started without his detachment. "I pulled the trigger of war. If our detachment had not crossed the border, everything would eventually have ended as in Kharkiv and Odessa. There would have been several dozen dead, burned and arrested. And that is all. But virtually, the flywheel of war, which is still going on, was launched by our detachment", - the saboteur stated in an interview with Zavtra far right newspaper. In August 2014, Girkin got in wrong with Russian curators and was "dismissed" from the position of "Minister of Defence of the DNR".
