The number of ceasefire violations has decreased in the Donbass. This was announced by Principal Deputy Chief Monitor of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission to Ukraine Alexander Hug at a briefing that was broadcasted in Kyiv today, - correspondent of OstroV reports.

"Since the confirmation of the ceasefire commitment, which entered into force on March 5, there has been an improvement in the security situation in eastern Ukraine. Last week, the OSCE SMM registered more than 4800 violations of the ceasefire. No one can say that this is normal, but 4800 violations of the ceasefire regime is a fundamental improvement of the situation compared with the indicators before the renewal of obligations, when the mission registered more than 7000 such violations", - he reported.

According to him, this indicates the possibility of the parties to reduce the level of violence, if "they want to take such a decision".

"If the parties decide to stop the violence it will stop", - Hug noted.
