EU officially extended sanctions against Yanukovych and his team

The Council of the European Union has extended sanctions against former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych and his associates on Monday. This is reported on the official website of the EU Council, - Yevropeyska Pravda reports.

It is noted that the EU Council extended the assets freeze against 13 people, "who are considered responsible for the misappropriation of public funds of Ukraine or abuse of power, what led to the loss of public funds in Ukraine" until March 6, 2019.

It was expressly noted that the restrictive measures against the two persons were not extended.

As previously reported, the EU ambassadors removed former Minister of Justice of Ukraine under Yanukovych Olena Lukash and the People's Deputy Serhiy Klyuyev from sanction list. The decision should be made public in the Official Journal of the EU on March 6.

On February 21, the European Court decided on the illegality of the latest wave of sanctions imposed on Serhiy Klyuyev by the EU Council in 2017. On March 6, 2014, the EU imposed sanctions in the form of freezing assets against former Ukrainian officials during the Yanukovych presidency for abusing public finances and violating human rights. Last time, the sanctions were extended in March 2017.
