The Russian Federation will deploy in the illegally-annexed Crimea its second division of S-400 Triumph missile systems for "protection against aerial threats from Ukraine", RBK reported citing Putin’s press secretary Dmitry Peskov.

Previously, the Russian media reported that the complexes would be deployed to protect against airborne facilities that allegedly may appear from Ukraine. "The task of the second division of the S-400 complex is to timely locate and, if necessary, destroy aerial targets on the Ukrainian side threatening Crimea", - the source said.

Answering the question about the validity of this information, Peskov answered: "The Russian side's actions to ensure its security should not be perceived as a threat to someone, but should be perceived only as ensuring our own security". According to Putin's spokesman, "Russia side has full sovereign right for that".

The first S-400 division was deployed in the Crimea, in Feodosiya district, in January 2017. At the same time, the commander of the 4th Air Force and Air Defence Army, Lieutenant-General Viktor Sevostyanov stated that the deployment of the S-400 complexes would continue, but he did not name the terms. "Of course, this is stipulated, I would not like to speak about the terms for the time being", - Sevostyanov said at the time.

The S-400 Triumph missile systems are designed to hit airborne targets at a range of up to 400 km and ballistic missiles at a range of up to 30km.
