Many former prisoners have traumas that testify to the use of torture by militants - Herashchenko

Twenty-four former prisoners are undergoing medical examination and rehabilitation at a military hospital, according to a Ukrainian envoy to the Minsk Trilateral Contact Group's humanitarian subgroup and First Deputy Parliament Speaker Iryna Herashchenko.

"The heads of medical institutions informed me that to date 24 ex-hostage servicemen are undergoing medical examination and rehabilitation at a military hospital, and 41 released people (including civilians and military) are in the hospital of the State Affairs Department. Many of them have obsolete head injuries, their teeth are broken, which testifies to torture (many were badly beaten in the first difficult days)... Everyone will be provided with medical assistance, dental services", - Herashchenko wrote on her Facebook page.

In addition, she recalled that the Ukrainian Social Policy Ministry was working on all technical details, and in the near future, those released from captivity would receive one-time cash assistance.

A team of psychologists led by Vadym Svyrydenko is also actively working with those liberated and their families. "Many friends and acquaintances call and ask - how to help the guys? This is a good initiative and it seems to me that most of all they dream about rest and a small family trip, so you can make such a dream come true", - Herashchenko added.

At the same time, she urged not to forget about the families of those Ukrainians who continue to be in captivity in occupied Donbass. "In the meantime, we are working to implement the second stage of liberation as soon as possible", - Herashchenko added.
