Nearly half of IDPs in Ukraine have funds only for food - Survey

Forty percent of internally displaced persons in Ukraine have funds only for food, according to a survey conducted by the International Organization for Migration, Interfax-Ukraine reports.

According to the results of the survey that were presented in Kyiv on Wednesday, 7% of the IDP households polled are forced to cut spending on food, 48% have enough money for food and basic needs, and 5% have enough for basic needs and have savings.

Some 28% of IPD households have a monthly income of $115-190, 22% - $60-115, 21% - $190-260, 16% - $260-410, 8% - over $410, and 5% - less than $60.

According to the survey, the average monthly income of one IDP in August was $90 and in June it was $76.

A total of 49% of IDPs are employed, 23% are unemployed, and 28% are retirees, recipients of disability pensions or on parental leave.

At the same time, 62% of respondents were employed before displacement.

The survey was conducted in August 2017. In total, 1,025 internally displaced persons were interviewed face-to-face in 24 regions of Ukraine and Kyiv.
