Only a third of Ukrainian IDPs plan to return home after the war ends - Survey

In Ukraine, only 32% of internally displaced persons intend to return to their previous places of residence after the end of the conflict. This is stated in the study of the International Organization for Migration, - zn.ua reports with reference to Interfax-Ukraina.

According to the research, 29% of the respondents do not intend to return at all, 17% say they might return in the future, 1% is going to return in the near future, and 21% found it difficult to answer.

At the same time, 54% of IDPs visited places which they had left.

The main reasons for visiting the uncontrolled territories were several answers: visits to maintain the housing (75%), visiting friends and family members (54%), transportation of belongings (25%), special occasions like weddings or funerals (7%), seeking possibility of return (7%), operations with property (sale, lease) (2%), other (1%).

Those who did not visit uncontrolled territories of Ukraine named their main reasons: danger to life (33%), political reasons (20%), lack of finances (13%), health reasons (13% ), lack of property, relatives or friends there (10%), other (9%), no answer (2%).

The survey was conducted in August 2017. In total, 1,025 internally displaced persons were interviewed in 24 regions of Ukraine and Kyiv using the personal interview method.
