After a telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, leader of the "DNR" Alexander Zakharchenko said that he agreed to the option offered by Ukraine for the exchange of prisoners and that he always had similar views.

"I supported the initiative of the President of Russia for the simple reason that it does not contradict our principles and policy of the "republic" in the matter of prisoners before", - he said.

As previously reported, Vladimir Putin responded positively to the proposal of Ukraine's representative Viktor Medvedchuk to exchange prisoners under the formula of 306 militants for 74 Ukrainian hostages.

"I will do everything that depends on me, I will talk with the leadership of both the “Donetsk republic” and the “Luhansk republic". I hope that your proposal will be realized as soon as possible", - Putin promised.

Earlier, militants insisted only on the option of "all for all", so there has been no exchange of prisoners between Ukraine and the militants for 14 months.

"I want to ask you, using your authority, to appeal to the heads of the unrecognized republics for this exchange and to release those persons", - Medvedchuk told Putin.

Late in the evening on Wednesday, the Russian president actually called Zakharchenko and Plotnitsky. After that, the heads of the "republics" agreed to exchange prisoners on the basis of the formula proposed by Ukraine, hypocritically saying that they have never refused it.
