Consolidation of power case: the General Prosecutor's Office reported a new suspicion to escaped Yanukovych

The General Prosecutor's Office informed the escaped former president Viktor Yanukovych and the ex-Minister of Justice Oleksandr Lavrynovych on suspicion of take-over. Prosecutor General Yuriy Lutsenko wrote this on his Facebook.

"The Department of Special Investigations of the General Prosecutor's Office investigates a case of the Constitutional coup of 2010, which led to take-over by broadening of powers of the President of Ukraine by unconstitutional means at the expense of narrowing the role and powers of the Parliament and the Government", - the Prosecutor General noted.

According to him, on the basis of collected evidence, "it was reported on suspicion under Part 1 of Article 109 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine to the former President V.Yanukovych and the ex-Minister of Justice O.Lavrynovych in committing take-over together with other persons, including by taking actions on the illegal amendment of the current Constitution of Ukraine without the decision of a single legislative body in Ukraine - the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine by introducing the text of Constitution of Ukraine of 1996 in the Unified State Register of Regulatory Acts and its official publication".
