An ordered calling up for military service to the National Guard has begun in Ukraine under the Presidential Decree No 178/2017 of July 7, 2017.

According to the decree, "physically qualified male citizens of Ukraine, who turned 20 years old on the day of departure to military units, and elder persons who have not reached the age of 27 and do not have the right of draft exemption" will be called up for military service to the National Guard of Ukraine.

The decree instructed the Cabinet, as well as the regional and Kyiv city state administration, "to ensure the implementation of activities related to the preparation and holding of the August 2017 military conscription of Ukrainian citizens to the National Guard of Ukraine".

The General Staff stated earlier that an ordered calling up is being held in connection with shortage in the National Guard during the May calling up.
