The US State Department criticized Ukraine's decision to block Yandex, VKontakte and Odnoklassniki

The US State Department criticizes the decision of the Ukrainian authorities to block Russian social networks and Yandex, Voice of America reports.

A representative of the foreign policy department admitted that the US knows that Russian media are destabilizing the work of the authorities with the help of fake news and fake information. At the same time, he said that freedom of speech does not allow blocking sources of information.

"Freedom of speech is a key element of a healthy democracy, which is spelled out in the Constitution of Ukraine, and we urge the Ukrainian government to find an opportunity to protect its national interests in a way that does not undermine constitutional principles", - the State Department noted.

As previously reported, on May 17, the decree of the President of Ukraine on the implementation of the decision of the National Security and Defense Council came into effect, according to which Russian social networks VKontakte, Odnoklassniki, as well as Yandex and the accounting service 1C will be blocked in Ukraine.
