Accident at the Lviv’s mine: 8 people died, the fate of 20 people remains unknown

Eight people died in the result of an explosion at mine in Lviv oblast’s Sokalskiy district. The press-service of the State Emergency Service reports.

"Due to the explosion a rockfall occurred on the mine №10 Stepnaya at OJSC LvivVugillya at the depth of 550 m in the village of Glukhiv, Lviv oblast, at 12:45 on March 2”, - reads the message.

Of 172 miners on shift, 34 people were working at an emergency site. Eight people have been killed in the blast, according to the incoming reports and another six were injured and brought to the surface.

The fate of another 20 miners remains unknown.

The investigation has been launched. Units of Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry and the State Emergency Service were involved in rescue activities.

This information was confirmed by press-secretary of the president Svyatoslav Tsegolko on his Facebook page. He also noted that the coordination headquarters was established.

In turn, head of the Independent Trade Union of Miners of Ukraine Mikhailo Volynets on his Facebook page informs about 11 victims of the accident. According to him, the explosion of methane occurred.
