Journalists have identified 285,023 russian servicemen killed in the war against Ukraine. The data on those killed is collected and analysed by BBC News Russian, Mediazona, and a team of volunteers, the Telegram channel “Nastoyashchee Vremya” reported on October 30.
According to the publications and volunteers, motorized rifle brigades have suffered the heaviest losses since the start of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine. As noted, they effectively serve as infantry units that, supported by their own tanks and artillery, storm and hold positions.
In total, motorized rifle brigades have lost 15,312 personnel. The 15th Motorized Rifle Brigade, known as the “Black Hussars”, ranks first in terms of losses. Investigators previously wrote that the deaths of servicemen from this brigade were linked not only to combat operations but also to possible abuses of authority by commanders.
The 30th Motorized Rifle Brigade, stationed in the Samara oblast, ranks second. Before the war, according to the study, it was a new experimental mobile formation. Its mobility consisted in the fact that some of its personnel were supposed to travel in UAZ Patriot vehicles rather than heavy armored equipment.
