The number of evacuation requests from the Kramatorsk and Sloviansk territorial communities in the Donetsk oblast is growing. Recently, volunteers have increasingly been evacuating families with young children due to the deteriorating security situation and the threat of russian attacks. Anatolii Hodun, director of the “Volunteers from God” charitable foundation, said this on October 23 during a broadcast on “Suspilne Studio”.
According to him, one of the main reasons people postpone leaving is the lack of housing in safer regions. Those who have relatives or the means to rent accommodation are the ones most likely to evacuate. The others stay until the last possible moment because they do not know where to go.
Volunteers transport people to transit centers in Sloviansk. From there, evacuees can travel to Lozova, where they receive assistance with finding accommodation, or travel through Kharkiv to other regions. In Kharkiv, people receive help with documents and tickets, as well as psychological support if needed.
Hodun noted that volunteers evacuate between two and four families every day. There has also been an increase in requests from settlements where russian drones control the roads or significantly impede movement.
For evacuations, volunteers use armored vehicles and equipment to detect drones, constantly monitoring the air situation. According to Hodun, russian military personnel attack vehicles near the front line, making evacuations dangerous.
