"If President Trump really wants elections to be held, tell putin: give us two months of a complete ceasefire, and we will hold elections. And we will, of course, be ready to accept any choice made by our people — the Ukrainian people", - President Volodymyr Zelensky said in an interview with ABC News, RBC-Ukraine reports.

According to reports, Zelensky's statement came after U.S. President Donald Trump publicly called on the Ukrainian people to elect a new leader.

The president also responded to remarks by American billionaire Elon Musk, who said that Zelensky had supposedly "gone too far" and should step down.

"These people (Trump and Musk — ed.) cannot find the key to stopping putin. Because stopping putin is harder than putting pressure on others. Because it is easier to talk about prices and link them to Ukraine. When everyone in the world understands that prices are rising because of the war in the Middle East. They are rising. They are rising because of the war in the Middle East, because of the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, for these reasons. Everyone understands all this", - Zelensky emphasized.
