Iran threatens Kyiv with "consequences" over the SBU strike on russian military cargo in the Caspian Sea

"Iran's threats are unjustified and groundless. The regime in Tehran is a direct accomplice to russian aggression against Ukraine, fueling moscow's criminal war with weapons that have been killing Ukrainians since 2022", - Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha wrote on X on July 27.

Sybiha was responding to Iran's Foreign Ministry, which threatened Ukraine with "consequences" and "retaliation" over the Security Service of Ukraine's special operation in the Caspian Sea on July 25, 2026. During that operation, vessels carrying military cargo for russia were struck.

"Iran has no right to portray itself as a victim, let alone justify its threats with absurd references to the UN Charter. Through these statements, Iran is also trying to divert the international community's attention from russia's terror against civilian shipping in the Black Sea, which threatens global food security.
