"On June 30, the European Commission announced the disbursement of €3.9 billion 'as the first payment under the first tranche of approximately €6 billion intended for the procurement of drones — a key capability enabling Ukraine to withstand russia's war of aggression'. This is stated on the European Commission's website", - Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty reported on June 30.
"This payment follows the Commission's first disbursement of €3.2 billion to Ukraine under the dedicated macro-financial assistance program, made on June 25. Further payments will be made in the coming days until the first drone tranche has been fully disbursed in accordance with Ukraine's payment requests", - the statement said.
"There is more to come. These investments will help Ukraine protect its citizens, defend its sovereignty, and strengthen Europe's security. Europe stands firmly with Ukraine for as long as it takes to achieve a just and lasting peace", - European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen emphasized.
The statement recalls that on June 25, the European Union transferred the first tranche of macro-financial assistance to Ukraine, amounting to more than €3 billion, under the €90 billion Ukraine Support Loan.
Ukraine signed and ratified the agreement on receiving the Ukraine Support Loan at the end of May. It is a European Union lending instrument worth up to €90 billion for the 2026–2027 period. Of that amount, €60 billion is expected to be allocated to Ukraine's defense needs.
