“Russia must make a deal. Time is not on moscow’s side”, - U.S. Deputy Permanent Representative Dan Negri said at an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council on June 22.

He condemned russian strikes on civilian infrastructure and cultural heritage sites and called on the Kremlin to return to the negotiating table immediately.

“As President Trump made clear during last week’s G7 summit, russia must make a deal. Time is not on moscow’s side. Diplomacy and negotiations, not further bloodshed, are the only way out. Nothing else will stop these senseless killings”, - he outlined Washington’s position.

According to the U.S. side, the russian armed forces are suffering significant losses — about 40,000 killed and wounded each month.

In addition, the American diplomat emphasized that russia’s economy is in an extremely difficult situation and is under severe pressure due to the prolonged war.

Ihor Chalenko, head of the Center for Analysis and Strategies, suggested in a comment to OstroV that U.S. President Donald Trump is increasingly leaning toward a scenario of ending the war in Ukraine along the front line.

As previously reported, in early June foreign minister Sergei Lavrov reproached the United States for lacking interest in the “spirit of Anchorage”. In reality, there is no signed or officially documented agreement containing understandings between vladimir putin and Donald Trump regarding Ukraine allegedly reached on August 15, 2025, in Anchorage. The two sides signed neither a peace plan nor a legal agreement. The “spirit of Anchorage” is purely a metaphorical concept used by russian propaganda to describe an alleged informal understanding that the leaders supposedly reached verbally.
