“NATO will reinforce its eastern flank defense with a new structure that will allow rapid deployment of forces in Latvia and Estonia in the event of war with russia, Reuters reported on Tuesday, citing two sources familiar with the situation”, - writes BBC News Russian Service, citing Reuters, on May 27.

According to Reuters sources, for these purposes Germany and the Netherlands, in coordination with NATO, have reached an agreement on the transfer of the German-Dutch Corps, based in the German city of Münster.

The planned change highlights the strategic importance of the Baltic states, which have come into focus following russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

At the same time, the agency notes that it is still unclear when the decision will take effect and how many troops will be subordinated to the new headquarters in the event of a conflict.
