“Due to the frontline approaching, a decision has been made in Kramatorsk to dismantle and evacuate certain cultural heritage objects in order to preserve them. At this time, monuments and garden sculptures have already been dismantled and subsequently relocated to a safe place outside the Donetsk oblast”, - the Kramatorsk City Council reported on Telegram on May 13.

In particular, this concerns monuments to Leonid Bykov and Taras Shevchenko, a bas-relief of Vasyl Stus, as well as the sculptural compositions “Born in Ukraine” and “Scythian Girl”.

Specialists are also studying the technical possibility of dismantling and evacuating the memorial sign honoring the liquidators of the Chernobyl disaster.

“Work is also continuing separately to determine the historical and cultural value of other objects that may require additional measures for their preservation under wartime conditions. Preserving cultural heritage is not only a matter of memory, but also a responsibility to future generations of Ukrainians”, -the statement notes.
