European Parliament Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE) will vote today for the report on granting Ukraine visa-free regime and the mandate to start negotiations between the EU institutions without discussion. UNIAN was informed about that at the EP Committee .

"At first, there will be voting for amendments, then the report as a whole, and then there will be voting for the mandate of the negotiations between institutions," - reported the Committee.

It is expected that the voting for "Ukrainian report" will be held according to the "Georgian scenario" when the amendments aimed to reject the proposal of the European Commission to provide Georgia visa-free regime did not get the required number of votes, and the report was supported by 44 votes against 5. As reported, amendments to both "Georgian" and "Ukrainian report" were made by MEPs of anti-European, nationalistic nature, in particular, Beatrix von Storch (Germany, Europe of Freedom and Direct Democracy group).

After the report and the mandate for the negotiations are approved, the European Parliament must approve the composition of the negotiating team that will participate in the negotiations with the European Commission and the European Council. Representatives of the European Parliament, Committee Chairman Claude Moraes (Progressive Group Alliance of Socialists and Democrats, UK) will lead the team of six and it will also include rapporteur Maria Gabriel ( the group of European Populists, Bulgaria). As reported, on April 20th the European Commission proposed the European Parliament and Council of the European Union to abolish visas for Ukrainian citizens. This proposal is the result of a positive assessment provided by the European Commission last December. It, inter alia, comprises confirmation of the fact that Ukraine has successfully fulfilled all the criteria under the Action Plan on visa liberalization action.
