The White House insists on concluding an agreement to end the war in Ukraine by the 250th anniversary of U.S. independence, which will be celebrated on July 4. This was reported by Bloomberg.
According to the agency’s sources among Washington’s allies, the United States is pushing to reach an agreement before U.S. President Donald Trump holds celebrations for the country’s 250th Independence Day on July 4.
At the same time, according to senior European politicians and NATO officials, there are no signs that russian dictator vladimir putin is ready to agree to a deal that does not meet his core demands.
It is noted that the negotiations have already passed several deadlines set by the American administration, and even some U.S. officials privately admit that they see no signs of putin’s readiness to abandon his maximalist positions.
Three rounds of trilateral negotiations held this year in Abu Dhabi (UAE) and Geneva (Switzerland) did not yield results. Moscow and Washington are effectively competing over who will "blink" first in the negotiations, a senior NATO official familiar with the discussions told Bloomberg.
This would mean either concessions to russia on some of its "red lines", including full control over Donbas, or Washington abandoning support for Ukraine.
Although negotiations between the three sides remain constructive, they have effectively reached a deadlock, the agency’s source said.
Among Ukraine’s allies, there are concerns that putin may agree to a ceasefire that would allow Trump to claim the war has ended, while moscow continues hybrid warfare or election interference aimed at destabilizing Ukraine, informed European diplomats told Bloomberg.
