For all of NATO, it should be obvious that national borders cannot be changed by force, said Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, commenting on the planned meeting between US President Donald Trump and vladimir putin.
“The American side has committed to consulting on its position before the meeting in Alaska with its European partners”, - Tusk said while speaking to journalists on Monday, according to the Polish outlet WP.
He recalled that the day before, the leaders of the European Union had signed a joint document stating that “the path to peace in Ukraine cannot be paved without Ukraine’s participation”. It was also signed by UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
“It is absolutely important that russia and the russian authorities understand that the West, including European countries, will not accept russia’s conditions, which consist of seizing Ukrainian territories”, - Tusk stressed.
He noted that this is a matter of security not only for Ukraine but also for Poland, since russia will, one way or another, remain a threat to the countries of the region in the coming years.
“Therefore, we cannot allow russia to emerge from this conflict strengthened and confident that it can violate borders with impunity. Our position is that any decision on a possible exchange of territories and other conditions of peace, about which there is much speculation now, must also be agreed with Ukraine. It is important to stick to the principle — nothing about Ukraine without Ukraine. Just as we have always wanted no one to decide about Poland without us”, - Tusk added.
He also emphasized that he is in constant contact with European leaders who prepared the aforementioned joint position, as well as with the President of Ukraine.
