French President Emmanuel Macron informed his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky that the position of the russian dictator putin on the war in Ukraine has not changed. He reached this conclusion following a two-hour phone conversation with the head of the russian federation, Bloomberg reported, citing sources.

According to one of the sources, Macron told Volodymyr Zelensky that the russian side still rejects a ceasefire.

The first phone conversation in three years between putin and French President Emmanuel Macron took place last night and lasted two hours. The press service of the Élysée Palace reported that during the conversation, Emmanuel Macron urged his russian counterpart to “establish a ceasefire in Ukraine as soon as possible” and to begin negotiations between Ukraine and russia “for a lasting and long-term resolution of the conflict”. He also emphasized France’s “steadfast support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity”.

Russian media wrote that the press service of the kremlin also commented on the conversation between putin and Macron. They stated that putin told the French president that “the Ukrainian conflict is a direct consequence of the policies of Western countries, which for many years ignored russia’s security interests”. The dictator also told Emmanuel Macron that peace agreements on Ukraine should “eliminate the root causes of the Ukrainian crisis and be based on new territorial realities”.
