The U.S. president has ordered a pause on all American military aid to Ukraine to force Kyiv to demonstrate "good faith commitment" to peace. Bloomberg reports this, citing a senior official in the U.S. Department of Defense.
"President Donald Trump has ordered the suspension of all military aid to Ukraine, increasing pressure on Volodymyr Zelensky just days after the conflict in the Oval Office with the Ukrainian president cast doubt on support from its most crucial ally", - the publication notes.
According to a Pentagon representative, the U.S. is halting all current military aid to Ukraine until Trump decides that its leadership is demonstrating a "good faith commitment" to peace.
The order applies to all U.S. military equipment not currently in Ukraine, including weapons in transit on planes and ships or awaiting shipment in transit zones in Poland. While the exact scale of the "affected" weapons is not immediately clear, Trump inherited from former President Joe Biden the authority to deliver $3.85 billion worth of weapons from U.S. stockpiles.
It was previously reported that Trump criticized European Union countries for spending more on purchasing russian oil than on supporting Ukraine.
