The unique monument of national significance, St. Nicholas Church, was damaged on the morning of December 20 as a result of yet another russian missile attack on Kyiv, according to the Ministry of Culture and Strategic Communications.
"The blast wave damaged the facade of the church, as well as the windows of the administrative building of the National House of Music located nearby", - the statement said.
In particular, the facade and the central Gothic "rose" stained glass window of the church were damaged. The concrete frame, as well as the outer and inner glazing, suffered damage. Additionally, the blast wave destroyed window frames on stairwells leading to the spires—the northern and southern towers known as the Crossflowers.
"St. Nicholas Church, built between 1899 and 1909 in the Neo-Gothic style, is one of Ukraine's most iconic architectural masterpieces. Its design was created by the prominent Polish-Ukrainian architect Władysław Horodecki, known for many Kyiv landmarks, including the House with Chimeras", - the ministry noted, adding that this missile attack is yet another example of russia's systematic destruction of Ukrainian cultural heritage.
According to the latest data, 1,222 cultural heritage monuments have been damaged due to russian aggression.
It was also reported that a number of embassies in Kyiv were also damaged by russian shelling. The total number of casualties as a result of the missile strike is 13. One person, unfortunately, died.
