Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has expressed readiness for “some troops from certain countries to be present on Ukrainian territory” as assistance until Ukraine becomes a NATO member. He made this statement on December 9.
"I plan to call President Biden soon, if he has the opportunity to talk with me, and specifically raise the issue of an invitation to NATO. Because he is currently the acting President of the United States, and much depends on his position. There’s no point in discussing this with President Trump now, as he is not in the White House yet and doesn’t have influence", - Zelensky noted.
"If there’s a pause while Ukraine isn’t in NATO, and even if we had an invitation but weren’t yet members, who guarantees us any security during that time? We can consider and work on Emmanuel Macron’s position. He proposed that some troops from certain countries be present on Ukrainian territory to guarantee our security until Ukraine joins NATO. However, we need a clear understanding beforehand of when Ukraine will be in the EU and when it will be in NATO. Understanding our future, these would be very effective guarantees", - Zelensky emphasized.
