Russia will not resort to nuclear escalation, regardless of what Ukraine does with long-range missiles from the U.S. and other countries. Political expert Kostiantyn Matvienko shared this in an interview with OstroV.
"We are definitely not closer to nuclear war; that’s absolutely clear. I am confident that russia will not dare escalate to nuclear action, no matter what we do with long-range missiles from the U.S. or other nations. Russians have been stirring up the nuclear weapons topic for quite some time, so nothing will happen", - he said.
The political expert pointed out that russia has not conducted nuclear tests in a very long time, putting the actual state of its nuclear arsenal into serious question.
"Russians have declared 'red lines' numerous times. Even according to their old doctrine, the use of nuclear weapons was clearly stated to occur only in the event of a threat to russia’s territorial integrity. Ukrainian forces are in Kursk—what greater threat could there be? This decision is aimed at the domestic audience, at russian society", - Matvienko added.
As previously reported, according to the press secretary of the russian dictator, Dmitry Peskov, the doctrine on "nuclear deterrence" signed by putin allows for a strike on Ukraine due to the use of Western weapons.
