U.S. authorities "strongly support Ukraine's efforts to defend itself from russian aggression". This was stated by U.S. State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller during a briefing on Thursday, August 8, while commenting on events in russia's Kursk oblast, as reported by Voice of America.

Miller was asked to comment on potential risks, given Ukrainian intelligence reports suggesting that russia is using the Kursk nuclear power plant to store Iranian drones and missiles.

"I'm not going to comment on Ukrainian intelligence data, but we have certainly seen russia launching strikes from the region just across the border where Ukraine is currently conducting operations", - Miller responded.

Miller also reiterated that Ukraine's actions in the Kursk oblast do not violate U.S. policy regarding strikes on russian territory with American weapons: "I’m not going to speak to why they initiated the offensive. When it comes to decisions on this offensive, the Ukrainian authorities should speak".

"But the policy we announced was to allow Ukraine to respond to attacks that come directly from beyond the russian border. So yes, in the area where they are currently operating, along the russian border, we have seen attacks from there", - Miller concluded.

As reported, the U.S. has expressed support for Ukraine following the attack on the Kursk oblast.
