One of the factors cited by the occupation authorities in the "DNR" for the region's supposed investment attractiveness is the large number of assets that legitimate owners were forced to abandon after 2014. This was stated by the so-called "business ombudsman in the DNR", Yaroslav Berezhko, to local journalists.
"There are many free niches; we know what the business outflow was like in 2014. There are abandoned assets, there are destroyed assets that need attention, and there is land available for development", - he said, without explaining how an economically developed region of Ukraine ended up with a large number of abandoned and destroyed businesses following the russian occupation.
