Ukraine and the US signed 10-year security agreement

On June 13, US President Joe Biden and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky signed a 10-year security agreement, Reuters reports.

The agreement, signed on the sidelines of the G7 summit in Italy, is seen as a step towards Ukraine's potential NATO membership, according to the text of the agreement.

"The parties recognize this agreement as support bridging towards Ukraine's possible membership in the NATO alliance", - the text states.

In the event of an armed attack or threat of such an attack on Ukraine, senior officials from the US and Ukraine will meet within 24 hours to discuss the response and determine what additional defense needs Ukraine may require, according to the agreement.

"The United States intends to provide long-term material support, training and advisory services, supply, intelligence, security, defense-industrial, institutional, and other support to develop Ukrainian security and defense forces capable of defending a sovereign, independent, democratic Ukraine and deterring future aggression", - the agreement states.

As reported earlier, on June 13, Ukraine and Japan signed a bilateral security agreement.
