Fico's condition is serious: "he will undergo surgery". Police arrested the shooter

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico was wounded in the arm and abdomen, his condition is serious but not life-threatening. The Prime Minister will undergo surgery, NV reports.

"It's a gunshot wound to the abdomen and arm. He is currently out of danger. He will undergo surgery", - said an unnamed source quoted by the publication.

Slovak media reported that the shooting began when Fico approached people who were greeting him, after which several shots were fired and the prime minister fell to the ground.

A reporter from Denník N saw security guards lift the prime minister from the ground, place him in a car, and drive away.

Slovak media also reported that law enforcement officers detained the alleged assailant and cordoned off the shooting scene. Information emerged that a 71-year-old man from Levice (a city in western Slovakia) shot at Robert Fico. The police arrested him and are investigating the motives.
