In russia, the coal mining industry of Donbas is no longer considered promising. This comes from a statement by the Deputy Prime Minister of the russian government, Denis Manturov.

"The most promising industries in Donetsk and Luhansk are metallurgy, chemistry, and mechanical engineering", - he said in an interview with one of the Donetsk media outlets.

The coal industry of the region prior to the russian occupation was not mentioned by the russian official.

As previously reported, the "reform" of the coal industry in the occupied Donbas boils down to the closure of most mines, leasing the most promising ones to кussian "investors", and replacing some grades of local coal with cheaper imported coal from the Kuznetsk Basin.
