The leader of the "DPR" Alexander Zakharchenko issued an ultimatum to Ukraine on the timing of the adoption of the law on local elections in the occupied territories of Donbass. He told separatist journalists about that, - reports DAN website.

"By July 14th this year Ukraine will have adopted a law on local elections, which will suit us or not. If it doesn’t adopt it, we will take the decision to hold local elections on our own," - said the militant.

Zakharchenko did not rule out that the elections in fake "republic" would be held during the current year. "But I doubt that Ukraine will adopt the law on local elections in Donbass on 14th," - he added.

As previously reported, on July 14th deputies of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine plan to consider the law governing local elections in the occupied territories. The Ukrainian side has repeatedly stated that the main condition for holding elections is a cease-fire and Ukraine's control over the site of the Russian border, through which Russian arms and personnel are supplied to militants.

The Minsk agreements, first of all, provide for the restoration of territorial integrity of Ukraine by granting a temporary status of "districts with a special order of the local government" on the occupied territories of Donbass. As for the local elections, according to the Minsk agreements, they must be carried out according to the Ukrainian legislation. All the documents signed in Minsk have signature also of the puppet ruler of the "DPR" Alexander Zakharchenko. Such concepts as the "DPR" or "LPR" and such posts as "the heads of republics” are not mentioned in the Minsk documents.

"To initiate a dialogue on the modalities of the local elections in accordance with the Ukrainian legislation and the Law of Ukraine" On temporary order of local government in separate districts of Donetsk and Luhansk regions," - said paragraph 4 of the set of measures for the implementation of the Minsk agreements. Then, paragraph 12 of the Set of Measures stresses that "the elections will be held in compliance with the relevant standards of the OSCE in monitoring by the OSCE ODIHR".
