Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, who is blocking several EU decisions regarding Ukraine, stated that if Ukraine were to join the EU, it would receive all the Central European support. This information was reported by Espreso, citing Index.
"Probably, if Ukraine were to be accepted, then all the support that Central European countries, including Hungary, have received so far would go to them", - Orban said in an interview with TV2 on December 20, adding that this particularly applies to agriculture.
Describing his actions during the summit on December 14-15, when German Chancellor Olaf Scholz suggested Orban "go get a coffee" so that the leaders of the other 26 countries could decide on starting negotiations with Ukraine on EU accession, the Hungarian Prime Minister said, "Hungary cannot stop 26 countries".
Orban mentioned that he is already preparing for the next "tough negotiations" at the summit on February 1. He speculated that the European Council "might also decide on a €50 billion subsidy for Ukraine", which he blocked at the December summit.
On December 14, the European Council decided to start accession negotiations with Ukraine and Moldova and granted candidate status to Georgia.
As reported, on December 15, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban vetoed the EU decision on the €50 billion budget support program for Ukraine.
French President Emmanuel Macron also accused Orban of holding Europe hostage.
