The European Union is not expected to take any major political steps in further European integration of Ukraine in the near future. This was stated by Ambassador of the European Union to Ukraine Matti Maasikas in an interview with RBC-Ukraine.

At the same time, the ambassador said that the EU was helping Ukraine to get closer in terms of economy, standards, business and science. "There is no big political step in sight. This is reality. You cannot say that we will do this next. But what we are doing is helping Ukraine to get closer to the EU", - Maasikas said.

He noted that Ukraine is a European country in historical, cultural and many other aspects.

As previously reported, a Ukraine-EU summit is to be held on October 1, one of the main issues of which will be the renewal of the Association Agreement. As Vice Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Olha Stefanishyna reported, Ukrainian business had submitted more than 150 amendments to the Association Agreement with the EU.
