At least three hundred thousand elderly people were left without pensions due to closed checkpoints in the Donbass. This was stated on July 1 by the UN system coordinator in Ukraine Osnat Lubrani during an online conference, - Interfax-Ukraine reports.

"The crisis associated with the Covid-19 pandemic and the restrictions on stopping the spread of the virus have deepened the already difficult situation of vulnerable groups affected by the conflict. The closure of the demarcation line on March 21 left at least 300 thousand elderly people without pensions, more than 160 thousand people could not use cash, thousands of families were divided and could not receive vital services", - Osnat Lubrani noted.

According to her, while Ukraine and the whole world are experiencing the crisis caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, the conflict in the eastern regions continues and does not go out of the escalation phase, exposing vulnerable categories of the population to even greater danger.

"I assure you that despite these challenges, the UN continues to fulfill its obligations and will continue to provide support to the Ukrainian population, which has suffered from the conflict. I am sure that we can do even more with the help of our Japanese partners", - Lubrani emphasized.

She also stressed that the UN positively assessed partial opening of three, but reminded all parties of the need for coordinated and realistic measures.
