Advisor to the President of the Russian Federation Vladislav Surkov has left the civil service in connection with "a change of course in the Ukrainian direction". This was reported by Surkov's political technologist Alexey Chesnakov.

"V.Surkov left the civil service in connection with the change of course in the Ukrainian direction. He will be engaged in meditation over the next month. After that, he promised to report on the reasons for his decision and future plans", - Chesnakov wrote.

Vladislav Surkov served as Assistant to the President of the Russian Federation on socio-economic cooperation with the CIS countries, Abkhazia and South Ossetia since September 2013. He is also considered curator of the occupied territories of Donbass.

In the spring of 2019, information appeared that Surkov wrote a letter of resignation, but a real resignation did not happen.
