The Verkhovna Rada has adopted No.2116 "On amendments to the Law of Ukraine "On the State Bureau of Investigation" regarding the improvement of the State Bureau of Investigation" in second reading and in general", - correspondent of OstroV reports.

250 people's deputies voted for the bill, initiated by President Volodymyr Zelensky.

The law provides for the early termination of powers of the SBI director and his deputies.

The draft law proposes to designate the SBI as law enforcement body, which is entrusted with the tasks of preventing, detecting, suppressing, disclosing and investigating crimes within its competence.

The document specifies the procedure for appointing director of the State Bureau of Investigation (the president of Ukraine will appoint the SBI director upon recommendation of the tender committee) and his powers, as well as normalizes the grounds for disciplinary action against the SBI employees.

The bill also clarifies the SBI system, the procedure for approving the organizational structure of the body, the procedure for the formation of its territorial departments, the approach to determining the maximum number of the central office and territorial departments of the State Bureau of Investigation is changing - it is assumed that they will be determined by the Cabinet of Ministers upon recommendation of the SBI director.

People's deputies supported the amendment, which would allow investigators and prosecutors, who were investigating into the Maidan's case in the SBI, to go to the SBI without tendering.

As previously reported, the prosecution authorities finally lost their investigative functions on November 20, 2019, and the Maidan's case should go partially to the State Bureau of Investigation, and partially to the National Anti-Corruption Bureau.

Earlier, President Volodymyr Zelensky stated the need to restart the State Bureau of Investigation.
